After Weeks of Rain, Benbrook Shares Flood Safety Reminder.

With recent rounds of heavy rain leaving the ground saturated and water levels rising in parts of North Texas, the City of Benbrook is reminding residents that flood safety starts before the next storm arrives.

Flooding remains one of the deadliest weather-related hazards, with many fatalities occurring when drivers attempt to cross flooded roadways. City officials encourage residents to take simple steps now to protect their families and homes.

Preparation includes knowing how to shut off gas and electricity, creating an emergency contact list, safeguarding important documents, and assembling a 72-hour emergency kit. Residents are also encouraged to sign up for emergency notifications through the city’s Know Now! alert system.

When flooding occurs, officials stress the importance of staying informed through weather reports and emergency alerts, avoiding floodwaters on foot or by vehicle, and following evacuation instructions if issued. Even shallow water can conceal debris, contamination, or dangerous currents.

The city also recommends long-term flood protection measures, including identifying flood-prone electrical circuits in the home and, where appropriate, considering protective features such as flood walls or berms.

The reminder comes as a timely one for Benbrook residents after weeks of persistent rainfall and rapidly changing weather conditions. A few minutes of preparation today can make a significant difference when the next storm arrives.
