Support for former principal appointee Shayma Alzubi continues to grow as educators and community members share personal accounts of her leadership and commitment to students.
In open letters to Fort Worth ISD leadership that were shared publicly, teacher Chanea Bond and former FWISD educator Ryan Higgins praised Alzubi’s impact on students, staff, and school communities.
Bond, who worked alongside Alzubi at Southwest High School, described her as a dedicated leader who consistently put students first. She expressed concern that criticism surrounding Alzubi’s faith and appearance overshadowed her qualifications and record of service.
Higgins, who taught with Alzubi earlier in their careers, recalled her willingness to tutor students, support extracurricular activities, and invest in colleagues. He argued that leadership decisions should be guided by an educator’s character, effectiveness, and commitment to students.
Both letters call on district leaders to focus on Alzubi’s professional record and the positive influence she has had on students and schools throughout her career.
As discussion continues across Fort Worth, many community members are urging district leaders to prioritize transparency, student success, and the qualities that define effective educational leadership.
