Less than 24 hours after a tough loss to Benbrook in a game affected by bad weather, the Western Hills Cougars responded the best way possible by taking care of business on the court.
Facing the Carter-Riverside Eagles, a team they had beaten handily earlier this season, the Cougars came out with clear purpose. Entering the night at 6-8 overall and 2-5 in district play, Western Hills played with urgency on both ends of the floor and never let the Eagles find a rhythm.
The Cougars controlled the tempo early, turning defensive stops into scoring chances and outworking Carter-Riverside throughout the first half. By halftime, the gap was clear as Western Hills built a commanding lead and carried it to a 56-35 win.
The victory snapped a three-game skid and pushed the Cougars to 7-18 overall and 3-5 in district play, good for fourth place in the standings.
Western Hills now turns its attention to a home matchup against Dunbar, set for 7:30 p.m. as the Cougars look to build momentum heading deeper into February.
