Cold winds greeted the Western Hills Cougars as they opened district play on the road, but the conditions did little to slow a team with big goals in mind.
Entering the night at 3-5 on the season, the Cougars took the field focused on building momentum toward a district title run.
The matchup against Young Men’s Leadership Academy was tight from start to finish. Unlike their previous meeting, this one required patience and discipline. Western Hills found the breakthrough they needed and held firm defensively, edging out a 1-0 win to open district play on a strong note.
The victory marked the Cougars’ first road win of the season and moved them to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in district action. It was the kind of result that often sets the tone for the weeks ahead.
There will be little time to enjoy it. Western Hills is back in action tonight, facing familiar district rival Eastern Hills with a kickoff scheduled for 8 pm.
For Cougar supporters, district season is officially underway, and the energy is just getting started.
