State Fair Attendance Drops as Families Push Back on Rising Costs.

The State Fair of Texas is feeling financial pressure after attendance fell by about 400,000 visitors in 2025.

The fair welcomed roughly 2.02 million people, but the drop sent a clear signal to leaders across North Texas. Many families say the experience has simply become too expensive.

Fair president Mitchell Glieber told city officials that affordability is now the top focus heading into 2026. Ticket prices last year ranged from $7 to $29, and officials say those costs, combined with food and ride prices, kept many families from attending.

City leaders across the DFW area reported hearing the same concern repeatedly. Families wanted to go but could not make the math work. While existing discounts for South Dallas children and teens were praised, leaders said inflation and tighter household budgets mean more relief is needed.

Fair officials are now exploring lower ticket prices and closer coordination with vendors to reduce costs.

For families who have long treated the State Fair as a fall tradition, the hope is that next year brings a fair that feels more accessible and a little easier on the wallet.
