Fort Worth Convention Center Says Goodbye to an Era.

Nearly six decades of memories came together for one final afternoon on Sunday as Fort Worth said goodbye to a familiar part of its downtown skyline.

The Fort Worth Convention Center hosted “It’s Going Down: The Free Farewell” from noon to 4 p.m., marking the center’s final event as it begins its next chapter.

The venue’s story dates back to 1968, when entertainer Bob Hope helped christen what was then a new gathering place for Fort Worth. Over the years, the arena welcomed generations of North Texans.

Fort Worth photographer Brian Luenser captured video of the building Sunday morning before the farewell began, including a familiar sight out front with friends from Cowtown Segway Tours.

The old arena may be going down, but it leaves plenty of memories behind. Fort Worth is making way for a larger convention center expansion, closing one chapter downtown while preparing for the next.

For everyone who walked through those doors over the years, this weekend offered one last chance to say thanks for the memories.
