Traffic concerns are bubbling up again in Benbrook neighborhoods, and this time the conversation has turned from speed humps to stop signs.
Residents along Timbercreek Road, the main stretch into the Timbercreek neighborhood, say speeding has become a daily issue.
With the city having denied speed humps multiple times, some neighbors are asking whether adding stop signs at intervals could at least slow drivers down, even if they do not fully stop.
The idea struck a chord because Timbercreek is not alone. Similar frustrations were shared from Van Deman, Del Rio Avenue, Park Drive near Mesquite Trail, and Timberline between Vernon Castle and Brazos.
Across these areas, residents describe straightaways that invite speeding, occasional police presence that offers only temporary relief, and a growing fear that it is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt.
Not everyone is convinced that stop signs would help. Some neighbors point to existing stop signs that are routinely ignored or treated as slow rolls rather than full stops.
Others argue that speed bumps create maintenance issues or that drivers accelerate over them.
A few residents shared past experiences in which cities required neighborhoods to pay for traffic-calming measures themselves, which stalled progress altogether.
What is clear is that many Benbrook residents feel stuck between limited options and rising risk. Enforcement helps, but only when it is consistent. Infrastructure changes take time and approval.
In the meantime, people living along these roads are watching cars fly past their homes and wondering what it will take to slow things down.
The conversation may not have landed on a perfect solution, but it highlights something important. Neighborhood streets are changing as traffic increases, and residents want to be part of shaping how safety is handled.
Whether the answer is stop signs, better enforcement, or a different approach altogether, the call from Timbercreek and beyond is simple: slow down before someone gets hurt, please and thank you. 🙂
