Just in time for Christmas, Benbrook residents received encouraging news about the future of the iconic robot at Robot Park.
Longtime resident Cat Evans shared that after emailing city leadership about widespread concerns over plans to scrap the original robot structure, she received a prompt response from the City.
The message confirmed that the plan to remove and scrap the robot has been paused. A City Council work session has now been scheduled to explore potential options for the existing structure before any final decision is made.
The response acknowledged the deep connection many residents have with the robot and made clear that no formal action will move forward until after the work session and a future City Council agenda item.
The update sparked renewed conversation across the community.
Some residents are calling for a clear, workable plan to preserve or repurpose the robot, urging those with the ability and resources to step forward with proposals. Ideas range from relocating it to Box Car Hill, turning it into public art near the park entrance, or auctioning it off for private ownership.
While opinions vary, the pause itself is being seen as a win for civic engagement. Residents speaking up made an impact, and city leaders responded.
For now, the robot stays put. What happens next will depend on thoughtful proposals, community input, and a shared willingness to find a solution that honors Benbrook’s past while making room for what comes next.
