After reviewing a community request for additional safety measures at the intersection of Gray Hills Drive and Orchard Way, the City of Fort Worth’s engineering staff has determined that no new crossing guard or all-way stop will be installed at this time.
Following an engineering warrant analysis, officials evaluated traffic flow, pedestrian activity, and nearby land use. The study concluded that the area did not meet the required vehicle or pedestrian volume thresholds set by the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD).
According to the city’s report, crossing guards are intended to help pedestrians safely cross, not to control or redirect traffic. Since current conditions did not warrant additional measures, the city has opted to maintain the intersection as is.
The location will, however, be eligible for re-evaluation in 24 months, allowing time to reassess traffic or pedestrian changes that may occur.
Residents with safety concerns or future requests can contact the City of Fort Worth’s Transportation and Public Works Department or submit a service request online at fortworthtexas.gov.
