After Rowan Ranch Victory, What’s Next for Benbrook Residents?

With the unanimous denial of the Rowan Ranch rezoning, Benbrook residents are asking what comes next. For many, the fight to save Mary’s Creek was not just about stopping one development, but about creating a stronger voice for the community.

Sean Moore, co-leader of the Saving Mary’s Creek effort and a candidate for City Council Place 5, says he wants to keep the conversation going. His vision is to provide neighbors with a space to share their frustrations, raise concerns, and feel heard. He believes listening to residents is the first step toward solutions, much like his time in the Army taught him that strong leaders pay attention to those on the ground.

That sense of momentum is spilling over into other issues, such as concerns about the Trinity Estates Sandlin Homes project. Residents point to construction in a floodplain, concerns about dust, foundation issues, and the loss of green space as warning signs for potential future problems. Some argue zoning laws tied the city’s hands, while others believe too many shortcuts were taken to push the project through.

Beyond development, everyday issues such as speeding through neighborhoods, construction traffic, and safety concerns around schools have also taken center stage. Many feel the city needs to shift its focus to these practical, daily concerns that directly impact families.

The Rowan Ranch decision proved that collective action can lead to historic change in Benbrook. Now, residents are working to channel that energy into ongoing advocacy, determined to keep their voices strong in shaping the city’s future.
