As early voting continues through October 31, Benbrook residents are being reminded how much is at stake in this year’s local election, particularly regarding the ongoing debate over the proposed rezoning of property at 4501 W Loop 820 S, also known as the Rowan Ranch floodplain development.
Community advocates, including City Council candidates Ryan Reagan (Place 3), Sean Moore (Place 5), and Derrick Varnell (Place 7), are encouraging residents to vote for leadership that prioritizes flood protection, responsible development, and stronger planning oversight.
The focus, according to the group’s campaign message, is on improving Benbrook’s Community Rating System (CRS) to lower flood insurance costs, updating local ordinances to prevent “fill and build” construction in flood-prone areas, and appointing planning commissioners who follow the city’s long-term growth plan.
Early voting is available until 7 p.m. today at the Benbrook Community Center, 228 San Angelo Ave. Election Day is Tuesday, November 4.
