Texas Wrestling Crowns Champions, Clarifies Club Rules.

The 2025-2026 UIL State Wrestling Tournament closed with familiar powerhouses on top and a clear message about the sport’s growth in Texas.

El Paso Eastwood claimed the 6A girls title, Azle took the 5A girls, Allen earned its 16th 6A boys championship, and Melissa captured the 5A boys crown. Coaches noted the rising level of competition across classifications.

Alongside the championships, USA Wrestling and UIL officials addressed questions about high school athletes competing in non-school events.

Wrestlers may enter club tournaments, but they cannot represent their school by wearing school uniforms, using school equipment or transportation, or being coached by a school-paid coach in collegiate-style events during the school year. Freestyle and Greco-Roman competition is treated differently, with some allowances under UIL guidelines.

For Benbrook families navigating spring and summer wrestling, the takeaway is simple. Compete year-round, but know the rules.
