Residents Rally Around New Community Grief Support Idea.

What started as a request for help during a difficult season may soon become something much bigger for the Benbrook community.

After seeing an outpouring of support for a local mother seeking guidance following the death of her ex-husband, one Benbrook resident was inspired by the compassion and encouragement shared by neighbors.

The conversations ultimately led to discussions with Karen Henderson, owner of Benbrook Tea and Wellness, about creating a community gathering focused on grief support.

The concept, tentatively called a “Grief Café,” would provide a safe, welcoming space where people can talk openly about grief, connect with others experiencing similar challenges, and build supportive friendships without any sales pitch or hidden agenda.

As planning continued, conversations expanded to include Miguel Bandy, manager of Winscott Road Funeral Home. Organizers say both Henderson and Bandy recognized a growing need for a place where people can discuss loss and healing in a healthy, supportive environment.

The proposed gatherings could begin as small group discussions and may include a nominal fee to help cover meeting space costs if participation grows.

While no official date has been announced, organizers are currently gauging community interest before taking the next steps.

The response so far serves as a reminder that some of the most meaningful community initiatives begin with a simple conversation, a shared burden, and neighbors willing to help one another carry it.
