Drivers heading south out of Benbrook are getting their first look at a new traffic light at the top of Mercer Hill, near U.S. Highway 377 and Bear Creek Parkway, between Hawkins Home Boulevard and Bella Ranch.

The signal, positioned along a stretch where traffic often moves quickly, is already drawing attention from locals. Earlier in the day, the light appeared inactive, but by late morning, it was operational, though not without issues. One driver described an unexpected stop at a red light, with no visible cross traffic, catching drivers off guard and nearly leading to a rear-end collision.

The location sits along a busy corridor leading toward Cresson and Whiskey Flats, an area experiencing steady growth, with nearby development including the Mercer Ranch property and a planned golf course.

With changing traffic patterns and a new signal now in place, drivers are being urged to stay alert, reduce speed, and expect sudden stops as the area adjusts. It may take time for traffic flow to settle, but for now, caution on Mercer Hill could make all the difference.
