The 40th Annual Fort Worth Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade highlights decades of community unity and reflection on Dr. King’s enduring legacy.
The Greater Fort Worth MLK Holiday Committee hosts the event, which has evolved from its humble beginnings as a silent march to a vibrant celebration featuring school bands, floats, and community groups.
Dr. Kingโs 1959 visit to Fort Worth during segregation left an indelible mark, attracting 400 attendees to the historic Majestic Theater and challenging the status quo of racial inequality. His vision inspired the parade formation in 1985, spearheaded by Weldon G. Daniels and other local leaders, as a tribute to King’s advocacy for justice and equality.
Today, the parade remains a space where generations honor Kingโs dream while embracing new traditions that engage the youth. As former District 5 Councilmember Donavan Wheatfall reflects, it symbolizes progress and the unyielding spirit of unity.
