House Set to Vote on Making Daylight Saving Time Permanent.

The debate over changing the clocks twice a year could soon take another step forward.

Next week, the U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on the Sunshine Protection Act, which would make daylight saving time permanent nationwide and eliminate the twice-yearly clock changes.

The proposal comes after years of similar efforts, including Senate approval in 2022, and has gained renewed attention with support from President Donald Trump.

Under current federal law, states may opt out of daylight saving time and remain on standard time year-round, as Arizona and Hawaii do, but they cannot permanently observe daylight saving time without congressional approval.

Texas has already positioned itself for the change. Earlier this year, Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent in Texas if Congress changes federal law. Until then, Texans will continue to change their clocks each spring and fall.
