A quiet Benbrook street was met with flashing lights and heavy smoke just before 9 pm as firefighters rushed to a house fire on Duane Street.
Benbrook Truck 53 and Engine 53 arrived to find intense fire conditions, with early reports indicating a resident may still be inside. Assistance was quickly requested from the Fort Worth Fire Department as crews worked urgently to gain control. The fire has since been contained, and the cause remains under investigation by authorities.
Despite a quick response from Benbrook firefighters and Fort Worth crews, the home’s resident, 73-year-old Gordon Lee Burditt, was found inside and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.
Neighbors said he lived alone and was rarely seen outside. This loss has deeply affected the neighborhood, with many already offering prayers and support for the family and for the firefighters who worked the scene. Residents are asked to avoid the area as investigators continue their work.
Benbrook has a long history of coming together in moments like this, and that spirit is already showing.
More updates will be shared as officials release additional information.
