A serious traffic accident brought westbound Interstate 20 to a standstill just after 9 am near Markum Ranch Road in Benbrook.
Benbrook Engine 53, Medic 453, and deputies with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle crash into a bridge pillar that left a male driver trapped inside his vehicle. First responders confirmed the driver was alive at the scene as crews worked quickly to provide care.
Due to the severity of the crash, CareFlite was launched and later landed in an open field nearby to transport the patient for advanced medical treatment.
Witnesses at the scene reported the driver appeared to swerve to avoid debris in the roadway, including what looked like a chair. Authorities also noted similar debris reported earlier along the corridor, prompting reminders for drivers to properly secure items in trucks and trailers.
Westbound I-20 traffic was heavily impacted as emergency crews worked the scene. Drivers were urged to avoid the area while responders cleared the roadway and investigated.
