Cougar Pride Shows Up Big for Teacher Appreciation at Western Hills.

By lunchtime, the courtyard at Western Hills felt more like a neighborhood gathering than a school day.

Teachers were met with grilled burgers, homemade desserts, and a steady line at a drink station that quickly became the center of attention. The Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, organized by Cougar Pride, brought together parents, alumni, and students to say thank you in a way that felt both personal and generous.

John Medina, a Western Hills alum, handled the grill, turning out more than 100 burgers. Around him, volunteers kept things moving, serving food, restocking tables, and making sure every teacher had a chance to step away and enjoy it. The dessert tables filled just as quickly as they emptied, thanks to families who brought cookies, cakes, brownies, and more.

One of the standout touches came from Christy Tolbert, who created custom cups and a full drink station with iced coffee, specialty sodas, and even slush machines. It was a small detail that made a big impression, giving teachers a moment to relax and enjoy something a little different in the middle of a busy week.

Behind it all was a long list of volunteers and supporters, from alumni to parents to student leaders, all stepping in where needed. It was not just about the food. It was about showing up for the people who show up every day for students.

As the school year winds down and the Class of 2026 looks ahead to what comes next, the luncheon offered a simple reminder. When a community pulls together, appreciation is not just something said. It is something felt.
