Controlled Burn Planned at Fort Worth Nature Center.

Benbrook and West Fort Worth residents may spot smoke on Thursday, December 11, but there is no cause for alarm.

The City of Fort Worth Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled a prescribed fire at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge at 9601 Fossil Ridge Road. The burn is expected to run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Prescribed fires are routine land-management tools that help reduce overgrowth, support native habitats, and lower long-term wildfire risk. Weather conditions have been fully approved for the operation, and trained crews will monitor the burn from start to finish.

If you are in the surrounding area and notice smoke, it is part of this planned and controlled effort. Residents can visit the Nature Center’s information pages to learn more about how prescribed fires protect local ecosystems.
