What was supposed to be a routine car wash turned into an expensive headache for a Benbrook family last Sunday.
After years of being loyal members at Caliber Car Wash on Benbrook Blvd, they found themselves in a mess when the automated track system malfunctioned.
Their vehicle was behind a large SUV already on the wash track when, without warning, the system reversed. The SUV was shoved backward multiple times, eventually slamming into their Cadillac. The result? A busted grill and a damaged front camera with a repair estimate pushing $2,000.
Although the manager initially apologized and mentioned the option of filing a claim, the response changed when the estimate was brought in. He refused to cover the damage. Adding fuel to the fire, the SUV driver confirmed he followed all instructions and kept the car in neutral.
Since the incident, the family has canceled their membership and is now pursuing legal action. They’re not alone. Other customers have chimed in with similar experiences, from raised prices without notice to damage from faulty equipment. One driver even had a side mirror ripped off when the equipment was too long for their truck.
It seems more and more locals are now choosing the old-fashioned hose and bucket at home over trusting their cars to a malfunctioning machine. If you’re a Caliber regular, this might be the heads-up you didn’t know you needed.
