Bobcats Football Final Tune-Up Before Season Kickoff.

Benbrook football is back home Thursday night, and for a young Bobcats team, there’s still plenty to learn before the games start counting.

The Bobcats enter 2026 after finishing 6-5 overall and 4-1 in district play last season. But graduation took a sizable group of experienced players, leaving this year’s team with plenty of new faces stepping into bigger roles.

That showed during last week’s scrimmage at Krum. Facing a program coming off a 10-1 season, the Bobcats had moments on both sides of the ball to build on, but also saw how quickly the game moves when many players are getting their first taste of varsity action.

Quarterback remains one position to watch following the graduation of Brennan Barton. Jaxyn Donart and Lucas Davis are getting their opportunities behind center, each working to settle into the position while playing to their own strengths.

Now comes one more chance to put those lessons into action.

Benbrook hosts Ponder Thursday, Aug. 20, at Bobcat Stadium for its final preseason scrimmage. Freshman and JV action begins at 6 p.m., with varsity expected around 7 p.m.
