What started as an overcast Saturday morning quickly turned into a full Texas baseball day, sunshine, heat, and one final home game for Benbrook’s senior class.
The Benbrook Bobcats hosted the Dunbar Wildcats this past weekend for Senior Night, though by first pitch, temps felt more like Senior Summer Day.
For 10 seniors, it was their final regular-season game at Benbrook Baseball Field, the last home chapter after years of practices, bus rides, late innings, and memories built together.

The stands were packed with parents, students, family, and friends. Tables decorated with photos and keepsakes told the story of each senior’s journey, while the day itself brought plenty of unforgettable moments.

Parents picked walk-up songs, introduced their players over the loudspeaker, and joined them for one final walk around the bases. Each senior pitcher got an inning on the mound, and longtime announcer Harold sent them off with words that landed somewhere between celebration and goodbye.

It was the kind of day filled with smiles, tears, and that strange mix of joy and finality that only senior night brings.
But before the emotions fully took over, there was still a game to win.

Dan Stiefvater got the start on the mound as part of the seniors’ pitching rotation and helped hold Dunbar scoreless through the opening innings. The Wildcats matched the effort early, keeping Benbrook quiet through two innings.
Then the third inning happened.
The Bobcats exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back. Hudson Stockton doubled to score one, Ethan Tucker followed with an RBI double, Trentin Hornbeck drove in two with a single, Jack Mahaney added another RBI knock, Pierce Battle brought home two more, Chevy Martinez tripled in a run, and Stockton capped the inning with another RBI single.
Just like that, it was 10-0.
Dunbar answered with one run later, but Benbrook stayed in control and added one more to close out an 11-1 win.

Martinez led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3, while Hornbeck also collected three hits. Stockton, Mahaney, and Battle each drove in two runs. Tucker added two hits, and Giulianno Martinez and Brennan Barton each swiped multiple bases as the Bobcats totaled five steals on the day.
Defensively, Benbrook was sharp, finishing without a single error. Giuliano Martinez led the team with seven defensive plays.
Trevor Whaling, Brennan Barton, Tucker, and Hornbeck each pitched an inning in relief, while Stiefvater earned the win with a clean inning and two strikeouts.
Now sitting at 21-10-1, the Bobcats turn their focus to the postseason.
Benbrook opens its Bi-District playoff series against Bridgeport this week in Boyd in a best-of-three matchup, with games set for Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 1 p.m. if needed.
Senior Night ended with an 11-1 win, but for those seniors, the score or that they won their 100th career game will probably not be the part they will remember most. It was the walk around the bases, the voices on the speakers, and one last game at home wearing Bobcat green, gold, and white, one last time.
