The Benbrook Middle High School Bobcats rolled out of town last night with a lively send off that felt every bit like playoff football.
Parents, fans and students lined up with signs, posters, cowbells and fresh playoff shirts as the team boarded buses bound for Birdville Stadium to take on Eagle Mountain in the bi district round.
Their last meeting with the Knights back in late September ended in a lopsided 46 to 15 loss, a night when injuries had thinned the roster and slowed the Bobcats at every turn.
This time felt different from the opening whistle. Benbrook matched Eagle Mountainโs energy, tightened its defense and kept the game within reach through the first half. The Bobcats trailed only 7 to 6 at the break with a packed crowd behind them.
As the second half unfolded, the Knights slowly pulled away and Benbrook could not find enough momentum to close the gap. The season ended in a 28 to 12 loss, but the performance showed a resolve that defined much of their year.
The Bobcats finish the season 6 and 5 overall with a strong 4 and 1 district record, a run that held the communityโs attention week after week. Players, coaches, faculty and staff, families, the booster club and countless supporters helped build the atmosphere around this team, and that support carried through the final game.
For now, Benbrook closes the book on a hard fought season that offered plenty of heart, grit and pride along the way.
