A large emergency response at Benbrook Lake Thursday evening ended without a rescue after officials determined the reported emergency was a false alarm.
Emergency crews, including the Fort Worth Fire Department, Benbrook Fire Department, Texas Game Wardens, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, and Fort Worth Police Air-1, searched the lake after a caller reported seeing what appeared to be a person in the water.
After searching the area, Texas Game Wardens determined the reported person was actually a floating log. Officials also confirmed all nearby campers were accounted for and no one needed assistance.
Following the incident, one resident shared concerns about the lack of after-hours boat towing services at Benbrook Lake after recently spending several hours stranded before receiving help from a passerby.
Although Thursday’s call proved unfounded, officials encourage the public to report suspected emergencies. When it comes to water rescues, it’s always better to investigate than risk missing someone in need.
