Benbrook City Council Candidates Share Priorities on Public Safety, Infrastructure, and the Future of Mary’s Creek.

As Benbrook’s 2025 City Council election approaches, residents have a clearer picture of where the candidates stand on key local issues thanks to Kristen Melton and the Hills of Whitestone Homeowners Association, who gathered and published responses from all council contenders.

This second and final installment of the Benbrook City Council Candidate Questionnaire highlights each candidate’s perspective on Public Safety, Infrastructure & Maintenance, and the Mary’s Creek Project—three topics at the heart of how the city grows, protects, and sustains itself.

Public Safety
Candidates agreed that keeping Benbrook safe means prioritizing the people behind the badge as much as the budget. Many pointed to the importance of retaining skilled first responders through competitive pay and professional development, while ensuring they have modern tools and training to meet the needs of a growing community. Others emphasized transparency, suggesting that performance metrics and neighborhood-based safety data could improve communication and accountability between the city and its residents.

Infrastructure & Maintenance
From roads to drainage, infrastructure remains one of Benbrook’s biggest long-term investments. Candidates supported continuing the city’s proactive maintenance schedule and collaboration with agencies like TxDOT and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to reduce flooding and manage growth responsibly. Several also stressed the importance of balancing costs through partnerships, grants, and careful planning to keep Benbrook’s infrastructure strong without stretching the city’s finances.

Mary’s Creek Project
The most discussed topic was the future of the Mary’s Creek area. Candidates voiced a shared desire to protect the land’s natural integrity while ensuring any development aligns with Benbrook’s Comprehensive Plan. Many called for preserving green space, managing floodplains wisely, and seeking community input before moving forward on any proposals. The Rowan Ranch tract, in particular, remains a focal point of public interest due to its environmental and residential implications.

Across all responses, candidates showed strong support for protecting Benbrook’s small-town feel while pursuing thoughtful, transparent governance that serves both current and future generations.

Early voting begins Monday, October 20. Residents can verify registration, view polling locations, and see a sample ballot at gisit.tarrantcounty.com/TCVL.
