Ace at the Par 3: Martin Joins Benbrook’s Hole in One Club.

Every golfer remembers the sound of a clean strike that raises the ball, cuts through the wind, and then disappears from view. For most, it is a dream.

But for Benbrook’s own Monte Martin, it became reality Thursday at Benbrook Par 3 Golf Course.

Martin, head coach of First Tee at the course, was out teaching when his students encouraged him to take a swing. He had only a brand-new 7-wood in hand and told the kids it would have to do for every hole. On hole No. 2, playing about 129 yards straight into the wind, he stepped up and let it fly.

The shot found the cup.

With that swing, Martin earned a place in the course’s official hole-in-one book, a record the facility has maintained since 1995. It is a rare accomplishment and a fitting one for a coach who spends his days teaching young players the game he loves.

Benbrook Par 3 Golf Course, located at 1801 Winscott Road in Benbrook, continues to be more than a place to play. It is where kids learn patience and confidence, and sometimes, where even a coach gets a moment he will never forget.
