Students at Benbrook Middle-High School are adjusting to stricter identification, tardy, and hallway procedures as campus administrators work to improve accountability during the school day.

The changes are already showing results. According to the school, 105 students needed IDs on the first day of implementation, compared with just three on the second day.

Student IDs are now mandatory and must remain visible throughout the school day. Students may wear them around their necks or on their belts, provided they are not covered by clothing.

Students without an ID must report to their building’s front office. Replacement IDs cost $5, and students who do not pay may be assigned in-school suspension (ISS). A third violation also results in automatic ISS.

Tardies are receiving closer attention, too. Students arriving late must check in at the designated location: the front office in A Building or Room 302 in B Building. A fourth tardy results in ISS, with the same consequence for subsequent tardies. Tardy counts reset every six weeks.

Students arriving late because of appointments should provide documentation so their attendance can be recorded correctly.

The school is also introducing a digital hall pass system. Students must request passes through a classroom QR code or a link in Canvas using their school computers. They must show teachers an approved pass before leaving class and check themselves in and out.

The system limits how many students can be out at once, enforces a 60-minute separation between passes, and tracks daily pass usage. Students must use the nearest restroom, and those found in hallways without an active pass may face disciplinary consequences.

Administrators also warn that students who fail to return to class, exceed approved pass times, or disregard assigned ISS may face additional consequences.

The updated procedures place greater responsibility on students to arrive prepared, get to class on time, and follow campus expectations throughout the day.
