Benbrook Project Drawn Into North Texas Builder Investigation.

A proposed Benbrook development is expected to become part of a widening North Texas real estate investigation centered on builder and developer Corey Waldrop.

North Texas writer Zee Wilcox has begun what she describes as a four-part investigative series examining Waldrop and businesses connected to him. Her reporting is based on public records, court filings, bankruptcy records, inspection documents, and accounts from homeowners.

The first installment looks at Waldrop’s history with W Signature Homes and Trinity Design & Build, including lawsuits and homeowner complaints.

Later installments are expected to examine construction draws, disputed liens, allegedly unpaid subcontractors, bankruptcy proceedings and criminal allegations.

Wilcox said the response to Part 1 brought additional people forward with documents and firsthand accounts. The volume of material prompted her to split the planned second installment into two parts.

One will focus on a Grapevine construction project and records that Wilcox says include city inspection and FHA 203K documents. The other will examine complaints involving multiple homes and homeowners across different years.

For Benbrook residents, Part 4 is expected to include the local connection.

Wilcox says that the installment will examine Motiv Ventures, Chapin Holdings and a proposed development in Benbrook, along with another bankruptcy and questions about due diligence before homeowners or investors commit money to a project.

Many of the claims in Wilcox’s announcement are allegations in lawsuits or accounts from people who contacted her. Wilcox said she is working to distinguish those allegations from government records, court-established facts, and other documented findings as the series continues.

The material released so far did not provide a specific location, size, or other details about the proposed Benbrook development.
