Benbrook’s Robot Had an Elvis Connection.

Benbrook’s old Robot Park may be gone, but the city’s familiar red robot apparently had a Hollywood look-alike long before generations of local kids climbed through it.

A Benbrook resident recently spotted a familiar sight while watching the 1967 Elvis Presley movie Clambake. Near the end of the film, a playground scene features a towering red robot slide that resembles the one that became a Benbrook landmark.

The discovery is a fun bit of nostalgia for residents who still miss the original robot, which was removed as part of the Castle Park and Robot Park renovation. Some have questioned why the longtime fixture could not have been preserved or relocated.

But while one generation remembers the old robot, another will soon make memories of its own. Benbrook’s redesigned Castle and Robot parks are expected to be completed by September 2026.

Until then, those missing the old robot might have an excuse to watch an Elvis movie.

Learn more about the project through the City of Benbrook’s Castle Park and Robot Park renovation page.
