As many Texas families continue feeling the pressure of rising costs, college tuition will not be added to the list next school year.
Governor Greg Abbott announced this week that undergraduate tuition and fees at Texas public colleges and universities will remain frozen for the 2026–27 academic year.
According to the governor’s office, the tuition freeze applies to all two-year and four-year public institutions across the state, including both academic and health-related schools.
Abbott said the move is aimed at keeping higher education more affordable and accessible for Texas families while helping students prepare for future careers without adding financial strain.
The announcement continues a tuition freeze effort that has remained in place since 2023. State leaders also pointed to recent increases in financial aid funding intended to help more students qualify for assistance programs.
For many families in communities like Benbrook, where seniors are preparing for college decisions and financial aid conversations, the freeze could provide at least a little more predictability heading into the next school year.
