Benbrook paused on Sunday afternoon to honor a shared part of its childhood and history, as neighbors gathered at Castle Park to say goodbye to the iconic Robot one last time.
An estimated 75-85 people showed up just after 2 pm to mark the moment with a group photo and memories spanning generations.
Under clear skies and perfect February weather, families, longtime residents, and first-time visitors reflected on what the Robot meant to them.
For many, it was a backdrop to childhood play. For others, it was a place they later returned to with their own kids. The gathering felt less like a farewell and more like a THANK YOU.
The event was organized by longtime Benbrook resident Emily Moore and her team, who also launched a community scrapbook to preserve those memories. The book was signed and decorated on site, capturing stories, drawings, and reflections tied to the Robot and Castle Park.
For those who were unable to attend, Moore is continuing to collect signatures and notes throughout the month. Anyone who would like to add a memory can reach out to arrange a time to stop by. Photos from any era are also welcome and can be emailed to Emilymoore88m@gmail.com.
Plans are in place for the completed scrapbook to be housed at the Benbrook Public Library, where it can be displayed and enjoyed for years as a reminder of the community behind one of Benbrookโs most recognizable landmarks.
Photos from the event will be shared once all photographers have submitted their images. More details and pictures can be found at https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14Ze78yimHL/.
As Castle Park prepares for a new chapter with an updated robot and play area, Sundayโs gathering ensured the original will always have a place in Benbrookโs story.
