A New Shoe Store Is Stepping Into Benbrook Plaza.

If you have driven past Benbrook Plaza lately, you have probably slowed down and wondered what is going on in the space between ShootSmart and Ace Hardware at 9457 Benbrook Blvd. The scaffolding stretching from the ground to the roofline has fueled plenty of local guesses.

Some folks thought it might be another chicken place, a coffee shop, a dentist, or even something seasonal. Others joked that Benbrook does not need one more fast-food option. The speculation has been part of the fun, but the answer turns out to be much simpler and far more practical (at least we think).

Construction work beginning on 9457 Benbrook Blvd in what will become the Shoe Dept. Encore storefront in early to mid-2026 (December 19, 2025).

A quick check of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation revealed a registered project called Shoe Dept. Encore. The project was filed on November 4, 2025, under project number TABS202600495 and is privately funded.

According to the filing, the nearly 11,000-square-foot space is getting a full tenant-upfit. Plans include new interior walls and doors, fresh carpet and paint, energy-efficient lighting, and new merchandise fixtures. Construction is scheduled to begin January 5, 2026, and wrap up by April 3, 2026.

The tenant listed for the project is Shoe Show, a national footwear retailer with a long track record. Founded in 1960 in North Carolina, Shoe Show operates more than 1,000 stores across 47 states under several names, including Shoe Dept. Encore. The company focuses on affordable branded shoes, bags, and accessories for the whole family.

Beyond retail, Shoe Show is known for supporting local communities and charitable organizations wherever it operates, which aligns well with Benbrook’s community-minded feel.

So the next time you pass Benbrook Plaza and see the progress taking shape, you will know what’s coming—a new Shoe Dept. Encore set to join the Benbrook business lineup, giving locals one more convenient option without adding another drive-thru.
