Tournament play brought a long day for the Western Hills Cougars, filled with hard lessons and a glimpse of growth.
Coming off a tough loss, the Cougars opened tournament action against a strong Lake Dallas squad looking to reset and find momentum. That reset never came.
Lake Dallas controlled the pace early, forced turnovers, and pulled away for a 61โ18 win, marking the Cougarsโ lowest scoring night of the season. The loss dropped Western Hills to 2โ9 and sent them quickly back to the drawing board.
Just a few hours later, the Cougars looked like a different team against Irving.
Turnovers were down, defensive effort was sharper, and the offense finally found a rhythm. The energy shift was clear, but Irvingโs late-game execution proved too much, handing Western Hills a 58โ45 loss and moving the Cougars to 2โ10 on the season.
Despite the record, the response between games showed resilience and growth. The Cougars now turn their attention to a holiday showdown against Benbrook Bobcats, tipping off at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, with a chance to carry that improved effort into a local rivalry.
