FWISD Faces Rising Concerns Over Teacher and Student Exodus.

According to FWISD Watchdog, signs are pointing to a growing wave of teachers preparing to leave Fort Worth ISD as the Texas Education Agency takeover draws closer.

The watchdog group reported on November 23 that the United Educators Association has been working with nearby districts to help FWISD teachers secure positions elsewhere.

The concern is not without precedent. Houston ISD saw its teacher count drop from 11,378 in the 2023–2024 school year to 10,589 the following year, a loss of 789 teachers after its own state intervention. If FWISD experiences a similar shift, the district could face not only a significant staffing strain but also a loss of families. Unlike HISD, Fort Worth sits in the middle of several surrounding districts, including Arlington, Castleberry, Crowley, Everman, Godley, and White Settlement, all of which could become landing spots for families seeking stability and new options.

With financial issues, campus closures, an under-enrolled system, and a mismanaged bond already in the spotlight, more school closures seem likely. This includes the possibility of not just elementary campuses, but middle schools and even one or two high schools.
