The Benbrook Fire Department is celebrating one of its own.
Firefighter J. Gutierrez has officially completed his probationary year and earned his black shield, a proud symbol of accomplishment in the fire service.

Every firefighter begins with a yellow shield, marking them as a rookie while they spend their first year learning, training, and proving their readiness. Crossing that finish line and receiving the black shield is more than just tradition—it’s a rite of passage that recognizes grit, growth, and commitment to the community.
For Gutierrez, and for Benbrook, it’s a milestone worth honoring.
