Just outside Benbrook, the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating two big milestones.
Zion Jenkins, who joined the department at 16 as a junior firefighter, has officially passed the national exam to become a paramedic on his first attempt. Now in his early 20s, Jenkins also works full-time with the Fort Worth Fire Department’s EMS division, formerly Medstar. He is one of several former junior firefighters who have gone on to earn EMS certifications after turning 18.
Alongside him, Kevin Olivarez, a lieutenant with the department, also passed his national EMT test on the first try. Olivarez, who mentors new and junior members, recently returned to the area with his family and now serves as both a firefighter and a member of the Cresson City Council.
Both men exemplify dedication to service, helping strengthen the department’s ability to protect and care for the community. Their achievements highlight the impact of local volunteers who consistently go above and beyond for their neighbors.
