Gmail users are being warned to stay alert after Google confirmed a breach in its Salesforce-based business contacts database.
While no passwords were exposed, names and related details for millions of users were compromised, and cybercriminals are already taking advantage with new phishing and vishing scams.
Scammers are sending fake security emails urging password resets and making calls from area code 650 while impersonating Google staff. Their goal is to trick users into giving up their account access.
To protect yourself, remember that Google will never call unexpectedly about security issues. Hang up on suspicious calls, avoid clicking links in unsolicited emails, and never share login details outside of secure Google platforms. Adding two-factor authentication, using strong, unique passwords, and running regular Google Security Checkups can also strengthen your defenses.
