Western Hills Cross Country Finishes Strong with Grit, Growth, and Cougar Pride.

The Western Hills High School Cross Country team wrapped up its season in October after competing at the 4A District Championships, marking the end of months of early-morning runs, dedication, and personal growth.

Leading the way was Victor Lewis, who capped off the season with a new personal best of 19:44 in the 5K and a 14th-place varsity finish. Though he narrowly missed advancing to Regionals, his determination and potential have teammates and coaches excited for what’s ahead in track season—and on the soccer field.

On the JV side, Vivian Maina earned her first medal of the year with a 7th-place finish, showing resilience and growth throughout the season. Freshman Victoria Lewis also celebrated academic success, recently earning recognition as #2 in the Class of 2028, balancing excellence in both sports and school.

The team also welcomed new runners Ricky Williams and Elizabeth Nduwimana, who pushed past first-race nerves to finish strong and embody what the program is all about: perseverance, heart, and teamwork.

Coach Nowak expressed deep pride in every athlete who committed to those 6:30 a.m. practices, built mental toughness, and learned lessons that reach far beyond racing.

With cross country season in the books, the Cougars are already lacing up for what’s next—track season.
