At Western Hills High School, leadership is not just taught in a classroom. It is modeled, practiced, and carried forward.
In the latest AFJROTC project, many cadets signed up. Four followed through and saw it to completion under the mentorship of Assistant Principal Mrs. Martin.
Captain Ricky Williams, 2nd Lt Christopher Robbins, Major Nemganga Muya, and Major Zahra Rezaei stepped up, demonstrating discipline and follow-through that reflect the heart of the program.
What makes this moment even more meaningful is the legacy it carries. Two members of the Military Leadership Board are Western Hills alumni.
Major General Brian Newby, Class of 1979, went on to serve nearly 30 years on active duty before becoming a local attorney with Cantey Hanger. General Michael Langley, Class of 1980, built a 40-year military career and became the first Black four-star general in the history of the United States Marine Corps. He grew up across the street from the school.
Their careers began in the same halls that todayโs cadets walk. That connection matters. It shows students that leadership is not abstract. It can start here.
Western Hills continues to produce graduates who serve at the highest levels while staying connected to their roots. For more photos and highlights from the cadet project.
In a community that values service and perseverance, this is a story worth noticing.
