Western Hills Athletes Plant Roots for a Greener Campus.

Western Hills High School got a fresh new look this week thanks to a hands on effort from student athletes and Texas Health Community Hope.

Girls from Western Hills athletic teams rolled up their sleeves to turn the front entrance of campus into a thriving native plant garden.

Working through the School Wellness Network, students cleared planting beds, added soil and mulch, and planted a wide mix of Texas native species including rock roses, native grasses, rudbeckia, Gregg’s mist, agarita, echinacea, milkweed, and bluebonnets. The result is a welcoming space that adds color while also supporting local pollinators.

Planting native goes beyond curb appeal. These plants need less water, fertilizer, and pest control, making them a smart and sustainable choice for North Texas landscapes.

The Western Hills Garden Club will now care for the space and help it grow for years to come, turning this one day project into a lasting part of the campus. For everyone involved, it was a great reminder that a little teamwork can make a big difference, both for the school and the environment.
