What do a hard hat, a headlamp, and a robot dog have in common? If you guessed a cave adventure, you’re on the right track.
In a recent behind-the-scenes outing, TxDOT survey crews traded in their usual road gear for spelunking essentials as they explored Inner Space Cavern, a cavern near Georgetown. It wasn’t just for fun. This underground survey was a rare chance to study terrain that few ever get to see up close.
Armed with cutting-edge equipment, including a robot dog that resembles something straight out of a sci-fi film, the team gathered data that could play a role in future transportation projects.
If you’re into engineering, geology, or love a good underground story, this one’s worth a read. Check it out at TxDOT’s update.
