Tarrant County Sheriff Warns of Jail Release Phone Scam.

A new phone scam is making the rounds in Tarrant County, and it is hitting close to home for some families.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office reports multiple cases of scammers calling residents and claiming that a relative in the county jail needs to pay additional bond fees, ankle-monitoring costs, or other charges to be released. In several instances, callers referenced real names of individuals currently in custody or recently booked, making the calls sound believable.

Officials want the public to know one clear fact. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office will never call to demand payment over the phone.

The agency does not collect money through gift cards, payment apps, wire transfers, or phone transactions. Legitimate bond matters are handled through the courts and licensed bonding companies, not through unexpected phone calls.

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. Do not share personal or financial information. Residents can contact their local police department or, in unincorporated areas of Tarrant County, call TCSO Dispatch at 817-884-1213.

Scams like this rely on fear and urgency. Taking a moment to pause and verify can protect your family and your finances. Officials encourage residents to share this warning so others do not fall victim.
