The Benbrook Fire Department was the first to arrive, swiftly working to extricate those involved. Reports of major injuries emerged, and by 6 p.m., social media posts indicated that a person had been ejected from the vehicle, with a tarp placed nearby—raising concerns of a fatality. Hours later, authorities confirmed one person had died, while another sustained serious injuries.
Traffic in both directions of I-20 and nearby 183 faced significant delays, with many commuters stuck for hours. By evening, all eastbound lanes remained closed as authorities continued their investigation. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes while crews work to clear the scene.
