Residents Question New Apartments on Vista Way.

Another round of apartments is being eyed for Vista Way, and neighbors are asking the obvious question: Why build more when there are already complexes across the street?

Some residents say the new project may not be traditional apartments at all but rental houses. Others believe the push comes down to one thing—tax revenue.

While the new city hall was financed with municipal bonds, those bonds are repaid through taxes, and as more residents move in, there is more revenue. Still, city officials cannot simply block development if landowners meet zoning and permit requirements.

For builders, the math is simple: more households bring more potential customers, which can eventually attract long-requested amenities, such as a new grocery store.

For residents, the conversation reveals a split. Some welcome new housing options beyond single-family homes, while others worry that growth will strain infrastructure and alter the city’s character.

With Benbrook already seeing expansion in nearby areas like Ventana and another project slated for Mercedes, it seems the “build it and they will come” mindset is alive and well.

The real question for locals: will the growth deliver the services they’ve long hoped for, or just more traffic and chain restaurants?
