Memorial Day is more than the start of summer. It is a day to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country and in protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day.
Here in Benbrook, we remember one of our own, William R. Flores, who was just 18 years old when he died during the 1980 sinking of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn near Tampa Bay. In his final moments, Flores helped fellow crew members reach safety, sacrificing his own life while serving others.
His story reminds us that courage and sacrifice are never forgotten.
This Memorial Day, as families gather across Benbrook, may we pause to honor those who never made it home and the loved ones who continue carrying that loss.
From all of us at BenbrookLife.com, thank you to the fallen, the families they left behind, and all who serve. We remember you today.
