Local Newspaper with Deep Roots in Benbrook History.

Long before today’s headlines, the story of Suburban Newspapers was already being written alongside the growth of the community it serves.

Suburban Newspapers, Inc., publisher of the Benbrook News, River Oaks News, and White Settlement Bomber News, has been part of the area for more than 85 years. The company was officially incorporated in 1962, but its presence stretches back even further through decades of weekly reporting.

Its current office at 7820 Wyatt Drive in White Settlement carries its own history. The building is the last remaining structure from Liberator Village, a large housing development built in 1942 for thousands of workers at Consolidated Aircraft Corporation near the Army Air Force Base.

Those workers helped produce the B-24 Liberator and other aircraft during World War II, making the area a hub of wartime industry. Today, that same building continues to serve a different purpose, documenting the stories of the communities that grew up around it.

An aerial image from the 1940s, available through the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries at https://library.uta.edu/digitalgallery/img/10002068, shows the original layout of Liberator Village, with the current newspaper office marked among the buildings that once housed thousands.

From wartime production to weekly print, the building stands as a quiet link between the region’s past and the stories still being told each week.
