With winter weather no longer dictating schedules, Benbrook Bobcats athletics have been busy making up postponed games. One of those came in familiar fashion, a rivalry meeting between the Benbrook Lady Bobcats and the Western Hills Lady Cougars.

The last time the teams met, just before Christmas at Billingsley Field House, the Lady Bobcats pulled away for a 45-24 win. This time, the setting shifted to Wilkerson Greines, but the result followed a similar pattern.

The Lady Cougars won the opening tip, but that early moment was short-lived. The Lady Bobcats took control through defensive pressure and steady effort, even on a night when shots were hard to come by. Three-point looks and close-range attempts refused to fall early, but Benbrook adjusted by turning defense into offense.

Grace Klaerner and Giuliana Lucero sparked the first quarter with layups off steals, while McKinzie Brookshier and Maddy Blocker added points in the paint to help Benbrook build a 12-2 lead. The defensive intensity continued into the second quarter, holding the Lady Cougars to just four points and stretching the advantage to 23-6 at halftime with contributions from Blocker, Juliana Velasquez, and Mareah Sainz.

Maddy Blocker (#13) shoots a free throw during Thursday night’s district game between the Lady Bobcats and the Lady Cougars at Wilkerson-Greines.

The third quarter slowed for both teams, with each scoring six points as Benbrook maintained a 29-12 lead. From there, the Lady Bobcats closed strong behind Blocker and Brookshier, sealing a 38-14 win while Western Hills continued to compete with pride and effort until the final horn.

Benbrook also made the most of its chances at the line, hitting nine of twelve free throws. Blocker led all scorers with 12 points, followed by Lucero and Brookshier with 10 each, and added production from the bench.

The win moves the Lady Bobcats to 11-7 overall, 7-2 in district play, and second in the district standings. They will have one day off before returning to action Saturday morning, January 31, traveling to face Eastern Hills at Wilkerson Greines with tipoff set for 9:30 am.
