Wednesday night carried all the emotions of a final home game.
Before kickoff, the Benbrook Lady Bobcats flag football team honored five seniors whose work over the past several seasons helped lay the foundation for the growing program.

Parents, teammates, coaches, and fans gathered to celebrate the group before they took the field one last time at home.

Then came a tough matchup against a speedy and disciplined Young Women’s Leadership Academy squad.
The Lady Bobcats struggled early to find rhythm offensively, with missed connections in the passing game, mistimed runs, and a few costly mistakes slowing momentum. A turnover eventually gave the Lady Owls an opportunity they converted into the game’s only score, taking a 6-0 lead.
Defensively, Benbrook battled throughout the night against a complex offensive scheme, keeping the game within reach. Late in the second half, the Lady Bobcats forced a punt and mounted a promising drive with under six minutes remaining, mixing short passes and runs to move the chains.
For a moment, it felt like the comeback might be there.

But a missed pass on a key play stalled the drive and handed the ball back to the Lady Owls, who shifted into clock-management mode. Benbrook’s defense responded again with another stop, giving the offense one final chance. That hope ended moments later on an interception that sealed the 6-0 loss.
Even in defeat, the night belonged to the seniors who helped establish flag football in Benbrook and pushed the program forward in its early years.
The Lady Bobcats’ season may be over, but postseason playoffs across FWISD continue next week at Clark Stadium, with championship games scheduled the following week.
