Lady Bobcats Face Must-Win Game After Tough Playoff Opener.

A beautiful night at Dutch Branch Park set the stage for playoff softball, but the opener did not go the way the Benbrook Lady Bobcats had hoped.

Facing Eagle Mountain Lady Knights in the Bi-District round, Benbrook entered Thursday night looking to protect home field and take an early edge in the series. Instead, the Lady Knights found their rhythm early and never let go, handing the Lady Bobcats an 18-1 loss in Game 1.

The Lady Knights struck first in the opening inning, scoring on a groundout to take a quick 1-0 lead. The Lady Bobcats, with Madison Canada in the circle, worked to settle in, but the Lady Knights capitalized again in the second inning as walks and timely hitting pushed the score to 4-1.

To their credit, the Lady Bobcats stayed composed. They answered with strong defensive work in the third and fourth innings, holding Eagle Mountain scoreless and giving themselves a chance to stay within reach.

But in the fifth inning, the momentum swung in a way the Lady Bobcats simply couldn’t recover.

The Lady Knights broke the game open with a six-run frame, fueled by sharp hitting and defensive miscues from the Lady Bobcats. The momentum only grew from there, as the Lady Knights added eight more runs, including a deep shot to center field, stretching the lead to 18-1 and putting the game out of reach.

Canada took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing 10 runs, seven earned, on 10 hits. Esparanza Garza led Benbrook with the teamโ€™s lone RBI, finishing 1-for-2. McKinzie Brookshier, Natalya Muzquiz, Garza, Kaylee Boswell, Mya Vasquez, and Canada each recorded a hit.

Now, the focus shifts quickly. Game 2 is tonight at Eagle Mountain, and for the Lady Bobcats, it is simple. Win and bring the series back to Benbrook for a deciding Game 3 on Saturday. Lose, and the season ends.

It is playoff softball. There is no easing into tomorrow.
